Hampshire County Council has been presented with an Award for "Most Improved Street Data" in recognition of its information management.
The Award was presented at the GeoPlace annual conference and presentation of the Exemplar Awards 2015 which celebrate excellence in service delivery enabled through local government address and street information.
Using statistics compiled by GeoPlace, this Award recognised the authority which has made and achieved a real commitment to improving both the accuracy and quality of its street data submitted to the National Street Gazetteer (NSG) which is managed by GeoPlace. The NSG contains definitive information for streets in England and Wales. Primarily it allows local authorities to manage all streetworks carried out by themselves and by statutory undertakers in an efficient manner on the national road network. Consolidating this information at a national level means that there is improved consistency of data for all users.
GeoPlace is the centre of excellence for the management of spatial address information and street data for Great Britain, and manages the National Street Gazetteer (NSG) which contains information about streets from every local authority in England and Wales.
The quality of the data from local authorities such as Hampshire is very important as third party organisations such as utilities to go to the NSG hub to obtain the data, and it allows all organisations to meet their statutory highway requirements to coordinate and provide the appropriate streetworks notifications.
In presenting the Award to Hampshire County Council, Simon Bailey, NSG Custodian said "Hampshire have had a number of resource issues as well as many synchronisation differences with the districts. I can't emphasis enough the amount of work they had to do at the beginning of this year. They have worked extremely hard to build better relationships with those districts, as well as capture a lot of new ASD data. This award today recognises their efforts over the past 12 months."
