Barlow's appointment follows the winning part of a key local government contract, the Mapping Services Agreement (MSA), for the supply, maintenance and collation of local authority address and street gazetteers for the whole of England and Wales.
A surveyor with a Masters in Property Valuation and Law, Barlow joined Intelligent Addressing in 2000 from a background in property asset management and geographic information, and is currently the custodian of the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG). As custodian Barlow is responsible for the coordination of inputs from 376 local authorities across England and Wales to ensure quality and accuracy. The NLPG is unique, the master dataset of local addresses with over 30 million records, which also contain objects that do not have a postal address such as bus shelters, monuments, radio masts, advertising hoardings, car parks etc. The NLPG already plays a vital role in helping local government deliver joined-up and cost-effective services to citizens and is increasingly used by the emergency services for command and control applications.
"Simon Barlow has played a pivotal role in the success of the NLPG and in helping to secure the MSA for Intelligent Addressing", said Michael Nicholson, Managing Director. "We are delighted to welcome him on to the Board".
