A new report shows that widespread adoption and use of address and street data in local authorities could generate £384m savings over the period 2022-2026, with an enhanced return on investment of 6:1.
The report, commissioned by GeoPlace LLP and conducted by location strategy consultants ConsultingWhere, shows that savings are most likely through benefits that could be derived in adult social care, education, planning, and environmental health and data integration. All told, these offer an enhanced return on investment of around 6:1 – an essential uplift in efficiency, at a time when all local authorities are feeling economic pressure.
In simple terms, this means every £1 invested in using address and street data more effectively has the potential to deliver £6 in cost efficiencies and increased revenue.
National return on investment analysis
Many different local authority functions rely on address and street data. It’s a vital part of the references used to enable or deliver services, and therefore needs to be current, consistent, and comprehensive. GeoPlace wanted to assess the value to local government across England and Wales. Read the report ‘Assessing the value of address and street data to local authorities in England and Wales’.
Evidence from Nottingham City Council
Nottingham City Council is seeing impressive returns from its investment in geocoded address and street data, and the use of that data across the organisation. Results of an in-depth study, based on the same methodology as the national report in 2022 predicts an impressive 6:1 ROI, show the council generated a significant Return on Investment generating a NPV of £5.7 million over the period 2023 to 2026.
Evidence from Leeds City Council
Leeds City Council has integrated Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) into its systems, providing a fuller picture of address data and assisting in asset management.
