For traffic to run freely, organisations of all kinds need authoritative information about the road network – to maintain it, improve it and get the best from it.
GeoPlace plays a central role in developing the database that makes this possible: OS MasterMap® Highways Network.
The team at GeoPlace worked closely with Ordnance Survey (OS) to help develop OS MasterMap® Highways Network. We advised on the data requirements, specifications, and long term product roadmap.
Today, we’re still working with OS, the Department of Transport and all 174 highways authorities in England and Wales that provide data to make sure OS Highways Network stays up to date.
What kind of data is held in OS MM?
In short, OS MasterMap® Highways Network holds data created by every key organisation in the highways authority community – local, regional and national – including information taken from the National Street Gazetteer (NSG) and the Trunk Road Street Gazetteer (TRSG) for streets in England and Wales.
It provides accurate road geometry, and connects OS’s survey data to key information from the National Street Gazetteer – including the Unique Street Reference Number (USRN), street name, road number and maintenance responsibility, ESU (Elementary Street Unit).
